Progressive Prosecutor TARGETS ICE Agent—Nationwide Manhunt…

A progressive Minnesota prosecutor issues a nationwide arrest warrant for a federal ICE agent defending himself from road rage, undermining Trump administration immigration enforcement.

Incident Details on Highway 62

On February 5, 2026, Gregory Donnell Morgan Jr., a 35-year-old ICE agent from Temple Hills, Maryland, drove on the shoulder of eastbound Highway 62 in Minneapolis to bypass traffic. A vehicle briefly entered the shoulder to slow him, then returned to the lane. Morgan pulled alongside, drew his duty weapon, pointed it at the two occupants, and yelled “Police! Stop!” with windows up, they could not hear. Victims photographed his SUV’s license plate and filed a complaint. Morgan and his uncharged partner reported to the federal building end-of-shift, denying any operation or emergency.

Charges and Prosecutor’s Stance

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty, a Democrat, announced charges on April 16, 2026, filing two counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon in Case #27-CR-26-9656. She issued a nationwide arrest warrant; Morgan remains at large. Moriarty called the conduct “extremely dangerous,” warning it risked a “disastrous incident.” She framed it as the first criminal case against an officer in Operation Metro Surge, Trump’s winter 2026 initiative deploying thousands of agents to cities like Minneapolis for immigration enforcement. This move asserts local jurisdiction over a federal employee off-duty.

Context of Operation Metro Surge

Operation Metro Surge sent about 3,000 federal officers to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area from December 2025 through February 2026, leading to thousands of arrests of illegal immigrants. Protests erupted, with claims of civil rights abuses and two U.S. citizen deaths by federal officers under investigation. Minnesota sued the Trump administration for evidence access, distrusting federal self-investigation. Morgan’s actions occurred post-shift during this heightened enforcement amid national efforts to curb illegal immigration and sanctuary city resistance. Legal observers note the warrant’s scope is unusual for state charges against federal personnel.

This prosecution highlights tensions between blue-city prosecutors and federal border security. Morgan told investigators he feared for his safety after the swerve, yelling to identify as police. Victims perceived an armed threat without visible credentials. Moriarty’s office expedited review due to State Patrol’s unobstructed investigation. No federal response or immunity claim appears in records, raising questions about support for agents facing local attacks during Trump’s second-term crackdown on open borders.

Implications for Federal Agents and Enforcement

The charges risk a chilling effect on ICE operations, deterring agents from carrying duty weapons off-shift in high-crime areas plagued by illegal immigration. Hennepin County, encompassing liberal Minneapolis, resists Trump’s policies restoring law and order. Short-term, Morgan faces a presumptive three-year sentence if convicted, plus employment jeopardy. Long-term, it sets precedent for states prosecuting federal officers, eroding authority to enforce immigration laws against sanctuary havens. Communities fear both road rage and lax borders fueling crime.

  1. I would like to know why the ICE agent felt the need to pull the other vehicle over? This gives a black eye to ICE and other LE.
